Smudging is the burning of herbs with the intent to bring about desired change in energy and it turns one’s emotions, thoughts, surroundings and reality. Imphepo

Imphepo is a flowering plant with a faint liquorice aroma, native to South Africa. It is an evergreen subshrub with furry grey-green leaves and small white flowers. Also known as ‘kooigoed’ or ‘South African Sage’.

“In traditional rituals and ceremonies imphepho is burnt in large quantities. It is usually burnt indoors and traditionally in a badly ventilated hut, the herb is used as incense but in such large quantities that it may resemble fumigation.“
